Faculty Development Programme

About the Program

Advances in microscopy and flow cytometry have transformed the way biological systems are studied, enabling researchers to visualize cellular structures, track dynamic biological processes, and analyse complex cell populations at the single-cell level. These technologies have become essential tools across many areas of modern life science research, including cell biology, immunology, developmental biology, microbiology, biomedical sciences, and related fields.

This Faculty Development Program (FDP) is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive introduction to microscopy and flow cytometry, covering concepts from fundamental principles to advanced applications. The course is intended for faculty members, researchers, scientists, and anyone interested in incorporating these technologies into their research or teaching.

Over five days, participants will engage in interactive lectures, live instrument demonstrations, and discussions with facility scientists from the CIFF core Research Facility at NCBS. The program will cover the principles of light microscopy, fluorescence and confocal imaging, as well as the fundamentals and applications of flow cytometry. There will be no hands-on training.

A key objective of the program is to help participants develop confidence in selecting appropriate techniques and designing experiments using microscopy and flow cytometry. Participants will gain practical insights into how these technologies can be effectively applied in their own research or teaching modules.

No prior experience in microscopy or flow cytometry is required. The program suitable for participants who are new to these techniques as well as those seeking to strengthen their conceptual and practical understanding.
