Research Interest
My research interests include genetics, population genetics, and evolutionary biology. My current project aims to investigate the genetic basis of melanism in tigers. Melanistic tigers have a disrupted coat pattern in contrast to normal tigers, where the thick dark stripes merge together in a way to make the tawny background barely visible. This gives the animal an almost black blotchy appearance. Apart from the genetic basis, I am also trying to understand the micro-evolutionary factors influencing the occurrence and frequency of this rare phenotype in different populations.
