NCBS-TIFR STATEMENT ON FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION

Research at NCBS-TIFR aims to push the frontiers of knowledge across the spectrum of biological sciences. Often new knowledge questions prejudices in the society and raises ethical concerns of various kinds. Such enquiry requires creativity and open-mindedness. Questioning the status-quo is a critical part of science, and questioning often extends, beyond research topics, to discussing and debating societal norms, public perception of science, governance and policy matters, injustice, inequality and underrepresentation of diverse groups.

Given the nature of research in the centre, NCBS-TIFR is committed to academic freedom and upholds freedom of expression as guaranteed by the Constitution of India. All members of the NCBS-TIFR community are free to explore and express their ideas in writing and/or in public display.

It is understood, by default, that all views expressed by an individual member are personal and they do not reflect the official position of the Centre.
