In this session, Dr. Farah Ishtiaq of the Tata Institute of Genetics and Society-Centre at inStem will speak about 'Hitchhiking Parasites: The Role of Bird Migration in understanding Disease Ecology'.

Millions of birds make incredible journeys every year to cope with changing seasonal demands and exploit food resources, as well as to escape from parasites. Migration is a costly trait as it not only requires long-distance movement, energy but it increases the risk of predation and exposure to a large array of parasites. So how do birds cope with their parasites? How do parasites get around despite infecting their hosts? And how we can use this information to learn more about disease ecology and make predictions for future disease risk?
