Abstract:
The Archives at NCBS (https://archives.ncbs.res.in/) is a public centre for the history of science in contemporary India. Join us as we launch 100,000 new archival objects across 20 collections and 100+ years! These include rarely documented histories of women, communities and social movements. And these come in various forms: letters, negatives, glass plates, photographs, audio recordings, scientific equipment, letters, and field and lab notes. The material comes from all fields of science and mathematics. How it speaks to us is even more diverse. You'll see labour, class, gender, politics, humour, and so much more.

We also present a number of public-facing projects we launched in 2024. Join us to meet the team, and learn about our new magazine, school education program, preservation labs, public-facing research outputs, talks, exhibitions, and more!

And then, we move to the Hortus garden adjacent to the Archives at NCBS for refreshments, to see some more stories from the archive, and to launch the latest exhibition, "Untitled, Undated" at the Archives gallery. The exhibition presents material at the archives as objects that are abundant and fragmented - revealing the confusion of making sense of it and the doubts, biases, curiosities, and speculations of the people who engage with it.
