AI for Biology

Faculty at NCBS will undertake both collaborative and individual research projects, utilizing the state-of-the-art infrastructure established through the funding support provided under the program, with a focus on the following priority areas:

  • Protein and multi-protein complex structure prediction and design
  • Disease Diagnosis
  • Drug discovery
  • Genomics, proteomics and metabolomics data analysis
  • Metagenomic dataset analyses
  • Biomechanics of Genetic Material
  • Analysis of Biological image datasets

Biology for AI

We envision a future where biological research will feed into designing better AI. Insights from neuroscience and biophysics research can enable AI that is more adaptive, efficient, and capable of handling real-world complexity. We aim to use our expertise in biology to develop new AI tools for:

  • Understanding the functioning of the Brain
  • Principles of neural computation for AI
  • AI/ML for hypothesis generation in neuroscience
  • Redundancy in Biological and Artificial Systems
  • Learning from Multimodal Experience
