This course, taught by world
leaders in microscopy, provides didactic and hands-on training
for state-of-the-art light microscopy for graduate students
and postdoctoral fellows. We intend this course to become a
major venue for microscopy training in Asia, similar to microscopy
courses at Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole, USA and
EMBO workshops in Europe.
Supported by Leica, Olympus, Nikon, Zeiss, Hamamatsu, Andor and 100X Imaging.

Course
Overview:
Attendees will be selected from countries throughout Asia. Attendees
from Europe, USA and elsewhere are encouraged to apply. The
course will be intense and will require full- time participation
from morning to evening. Lectures will be combined with practical
demonstrations and discussions with teachers. We will have a
dedicated teaching laboratory equipped with many state-of-the-art
microscopes and also will utilize many outstanding microscopes
in two microscope facilities at NCBS. The major microscope companies
(Olympus, Leica, Zeiss, Nikon) are attending and providing additional
microscopes and support for this course. Other hardware vendors
will participate as well.
We will cover many aspects of modern biological microscopy
including microscope optics, associated hardware, fluorophores
and sample preparation techniques. Lectures on how microscopy
can be used to address biological questions will be part of
the program. See the preliminary
schedule.
Course students will have an opportunity to present a poster
on current research project. See the preliminary
schedule.
