This work will include an understanding of recordkeeping methods in the archives, the Animal Facility, and related spaces. It will require a review of the current collections in the archives, a survey of upcoming material from campus facilities. There will be an upgrade of the existing records through work on under-processed material to add to six collections and another 10 unprocessed small donations of collections (three large donations, and seven small donations). Processing includes rigorous archival description to ready it for research. Academic or practical knowledge of archival accessioning, description methods is necessary, including an understanding of archival finding aids and the hierarchical structure of the material. Familiarity with any implementation of archival standards and description is a plus but not necessary. Individuals will be required to work on populating archival accessioning and description data using spreadsheets, ArchivesSpace, and the campus Drupal platform. In addition, there will be recordkeeping measures and migration of data to Access to Memory (https://www.accesstomemory.org/) platform for digital objects. Training can be provided for these but a prior understanding of intent is expected. Individuals are expected to have a broad understanding of privacy and copyright issues with privately donated material, and the broad distinctions between restricted and unrestricted material. The ability to apply archival judgment to earmark archival material for conservation/preservation is a plus. Individuals should be competent with most things digital (spreadsheets, word processing, database entry, web navigation, ability to figure out scanning and archiving cataloguing needs). They should have good organization and communication skills (English and preferably also Hindi or Kannada). Commitment to time, an eye for detail and an ability to self-direct after initial training is critical. About 25 percent of the time for the position is dedicated to occasional administrative duties related to the running of the archive and outreach. The individual is required to have provided similar archival services at an established academic institution or project in India and provide proof of the same.
