The Centre for Brain and Mind (CBM) (https://www.ncbs.res.in/cbm/home) is a collaborative program of the National Centre for Biological Sciences and the National Institute for Mental Health and Neurosciences. CBM is an exciting new venture to study human brain development and function in the context of mental illness with a view to finding better ways of managing these diseases. CBM used human patient cohorts along with cutting edge technology to understand disease mechanisms in human mental illness.  

CBM is looking to appoint a Science communication and outreach officer on a contract basis.

Position: Science communication and Outreach Officer

Number of vacancies: 1 position

Age: Maximum 35 years as of 1st July 2024

Salary: Salary will be commensurate based on experience, skills, education etc

Essential Qualification & Experience

a) Full Time Masters' degree in Science (with an aggregate of 60% marks) from a recognized university/institute in a relevant subject/discipline.

b) Minimum 3 years of experience in writing science articles for a non-expert audience.

Desirable Experience

a) Interest in science and the ability to interface and interact with scientists on the campus.

b) Proven and excellent written and verbal communications skills (in English), with proven ability to write and copy-edit different types of content for a diverse audience. The ability to communicate in other languages is not essential but would be an advantage.

c) Ability to work independently as well as in a team

d) Excellent organisational, timekeeping and prioritisation skills

e) Capacity to manage different projects simultaneously

f) A degree in Mass Communication or Science Communication

g) Experience of working with a research institute/body

Roles & Responsibilities

We are looking for a Science communication and Outreach Officer to showcase and communicate the science carried out at CBM. The successful candidate will be expected to assist with the following activities:
•    Showcase ongoing research through writing and editing articles or short summaries for diverse audiences
•    Develop a new CBM website, manage content and monitor impact
•    Produce content and manage the social media channels of CBM.
•    Assist with preparing reports and presentations on the work of CBM
•    Produce Interviews of internal and external scientists showcasing their science as relevant to CBM.
•    Working with freelancers for writing, illustration or produce other media.
