National Centre National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) - Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), a premier research Centre is looking for appointment of FACILITY MANAGER AND ASSISTANTS for Animal Care Facility on Contractual terms under National Mouse Research Resource (NaMoR) project team to help in maintaining state of the art Transgenic Mice Facility. The position provides opportunitiesto work in a world-class high-barrier animal facility and gain expertise in genetic management and husbandry of various inbred, outbreed, immune-compromised and transgenic mice strains and overall professional development in a scientifically vibrant environment.
FACILITY MANAGER - Animal Facility - 1 POST
Qualification & Experience:
- PhD degree in relevant field with minimum 2 years of managerial / team leadership experience.
- Excellent communication skills: English both spoken and written is essential. Fluency in spoken Kannada is also required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Expertise in various molecular biology and micro-biology techniques
- Experience in working with laboratory rodent animals and familiarity with animal welfare regulation is preferred
- Excellent organizational & record keeping skills with good skills in working with MS Word, MS Excel and MS Powerpoint.
Job Responsibilities:
- To oversee and manage the different teams of technicians, animal care takers and animal facility service staff.
- To manage the molecular biology, genotyping and animal microbiological monitoring services of the animal facility.
- To assist the animal facility directors in the administrative and financial record keeping and communication with other institutional services and external collaborators.

FACILITY ASSISTANTS – Animal Facility – 2 Posts
Qualification&Experience:BE/B.Tech/M.Pharma/Masters in any biological sciences discipline with minimum one year of experience in Laboratory animal management.
Preference will be given to those with good experience and expertise in health and genetic monitoring techniques.Experience in handling laboratory mice and rats are desirable with excellent organization, recordkeeping, and communication skills are essential.
Job Responsibilities:
- Oversee the routine animal husbandry and welfare activities of animal care takers/support staff and students.
- Assist Veterinarian in providing orientation and training of new students/animal users/care taker staff in proper use of Animal facility, humane handling of animals, implement the SOP’sand assist on-going research work.
- Training and Assisting the users in surgical procedures, anaesthesia, analgesia, breeding and maintenance of animal colonies; weaning, sexing, tail biopsies for genotyping, producing timed pregnant females, packing live animal shipments for export, receiving live animal shipments, quarantine procedures, euthanasia etc.
- Assist Veterinarian in the process of import and export of live laboratory animals, quarterly animal health monitoring programs, organizing animal ethics committee meetings.
- Record keeping as per CPCSEA guidelines.
- Animal Facility is an essential service, so selected Facility Assistant must be ready to work in shifts (if required), as per Veterinarian’s instructions.
Age Limit: Below 28 years
