Protein Structures

Module 1 (8 classes) : Protein sequences – Amino acids, sequence databases, domain databases, motif databases, sequence searches, dipeptide stereochemistry, secondary structure, supersecondary structures

Module 2 (8 classes): Tertiary structure, protein folds, protein structure prediction, homology modelling, Alphafold modelling, protein interactions with other proteins, protein interactions with ligands, molecular dynamics

Module 3 (8 classes): Protein structures to function, Variety in protein folds, Catalytic sites, Mutations, Allostery, Remote relationships, Multi-domain proteins, Protein Assemblies

Course Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

CO1

have got familiarised with protein sequence searches.

CO2

be able to read backbone (phi, psi) values, recognise secondary structures and supersecondary structures.

CO3

be able to recognise and distinguish related protein folds.

CO4

to appreciate protein structure-function relationships.
